Cerec, Galileos Implant Planning – Precision Guided Implant Surgery – Cerec Restoration

3dxdentist.com specializes in the education and training of dentists, dental specialists, dental hygienists and dental industry representatives in 3D dental imaging technologies and the use of these technologies for the diagnosis, treatment planning and performing of 3D dental treatment procedures on dental patients. Examples of such technologies which 3dxdentist.com currently runs training programs in are the areas of Galileos and XG3D Cone Beam x-ray imaging, Cerec cad cam dental imaging and restoration design and manufacture, 3D precision guided implant surgery and the integration of all three of these technologies in the treatment planning and performance of precision guided implant surgery.

Dr Hugh Fleming (BDS, Dip Rad, Grad Dip Clin Dent – Oral Implants) is the founder and director of 3dxdentist.com and presenter of all education and training material. Dr Fleming first studied diagnostic medical radiography at Charles Sturt University attaining a Diploma in Diagnostic Medical Radiography in 1981. He worked as a medical radiographer in several major Sydney hospitals while completing his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) at Sydney University in 1986. His dental practice has a strong emphasis on cosmetic dentistry, complex restorative care and oral implants. He has been surgically placing and prosthodontically restoring dental implants since 1987. He also holds a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry from Sydney University and has lectured at the University of Sydney both to the undergraduate course, as Associate Lecturer in Implantology, and as Prosthodontic Mentor for the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants). Dr Fleming is a regular presenter for Sirona Australia in the integration of GALILEOS and CEREC technologies in patient diagnosis and dental implant planning and the use of precision surgical guides in dental implant placement.

Cerec, Galileos Implant Planning – Precision Guide Implant Surgery – Cerec Restoration

This mentorship will concentrate on the integration of Galileos/XG3D cone beam imaging and Cerec cad cam technologies in dental implant planning and precision guided implant surgery and definitive implant restoration employing Cerec. In particular it will focus on five key areas:

  1. The use of Galileos/XG3D CBCT imaging and Galaxis implant planning software in implant case selection and planning.
  2. The integration of Galileos and Sicat technologies in implant planning and surgical guide ordering and utilization.
  3. The integration of Cerec, Galileos and Sicat technologies in implant planning and surgical guide ordering and utilization.
  4. Precision guided implant surgery employing Sicat Classic Guide or Sicat Opti-Guide.
  5. Definitive implant restoration utilizing Cerec cad cam design and manufacturing processes.

Delegates will receive specialized tuition in the above five areas to enable them to select, plan and perform precision guided implant surgery on simpler implant cases with a high degree of accuracy, safety and predictability of restorative outcome. Following the successful osseointegration of the implants, participants will then be guided through the Cerec restorative process relevant to their particular case.

Such a mentorship will entail a mixture of didactic tuition, over the shoulder demonstrations and hands-on sessions outlining:

  • Patient suitability to implant treatment.
  • Case selection and patient scanning with Galileos/XG3D CBCT and Cerec.
  • Implant planning relative to a Cerec designed and imported final restoration proposal and ordering of a Sicat Classic or Opti-Guide precision surgical guide.
  • Implant planning relative to a scan of a radiopaque acrylic replica of a pre-designed wax-up of a final restoration proposal and ordering of a Sicat Classic or Opti-Guide precision surgical guide.
  • Precision guided implant surgery employing the above precision surgical guides.
  • Flapped and flapless guided surgical techniques.
  • Precision guided implant surgery utilizing a precision guided surgical kit.
  • Definitive implant restoration utilizing Cerec cad cam design and manufacturing processes.
  • Post-operative and post restoration implant maintenance and patient care.

It is the intention for participants to select, scan and plan and perform precision guided implant surgery and restoration on their own patients from the outset. In this way they will develop the confidence and hands on experience to adequately select, plan and perform ongoing precision guided surgery on the simpler implant cases in their own practice.

The participants in this mentorship require a sound knowledge and experience in general oral surgical procedures and should be competent in this area having performed such general oral surgical procedures as surgical removal of impacted wisdom teeth, fractured or retained roots, suturing of soft tissues, apicectomies, and possibly non-guided implant placement.

The aim of this mentorship is to educate and mentor participants in the full utilization of Galileos/XG3D CBCT imaging, Cerec restorative and implant technologies that currently exist within their own practice. It is not meant to be a definitive implant training program to educate participants in all the facets of implant treatment. I encourage all participants to seek ongoing implant training in other areas and techniques of implant treatment as part of their ongoing professional development in this rewarding area of dentistry, as they see fit.

Cost to Participants and Mentorship Structure:

The time frame for this course would be over a six to twelve month period entailing five mentoring sessions for a total tuition cost of $14500 (1 case) or $18500 (2 cases) + GST per participant wherein:

Session 1 – Patient Selection:

Participants will be mentored in patient/case selection and manufacture of the relevant radiographic templates for the required Galileos CBCT scans of their selected case.

Such topics as: patient criteria for implant suitability, possible implant prosthetic solutions, medical evaluation, pre-implant prosthetics, post implant provisionalisation, surgical anatomy, pre-implant preparatory treatments and procedures will be focused on and discussed in a group learning environment.

Session 2: Implant Planning:

Participants will be mentored in the utilization of the Galileos/Galaxis implant planning software to plan their particular case and order the required precision surgical guides to undertake precision guided implant placement for their own patient(s). The integration of Cerec, Galileos and Sicat technologies will be utilized in this restorative based implant planning program.

Such topics as implant case assessment, implant platform suitability, final prosthetic restorative options, optimal implant placement relative to a predetermined final restorative outcome, implant placement safety margins relative to vital anatomical structures, precision guide suitability and error factors in different precision surgical guides will be discussed.

Session 3: Pre-surgical Training:

Participants will perform a ‘dry run’ of precision guided implant surgery on a custom model of their particular case employing the precision surgical guide along with the guided surgical kit pertaining to their case. Post-operative surgical care will also be outlined and discussed. This will be in preparation for Session 4 of the program where they will perform the actual precision guided implant surgery on their own patients.

Session 4: Hands-On Precision Guided Surgery:

This is a mentored session of precision guided implant surgery where participants perform precision guided implant surgery on their particular implant case(s) as well as look over the shoulder of their fellow participants as they treated their own cases.

This surgery will be performed within 3DX Dentist’s implant facility employing the Sicat precision surgical guides pertaining to their particular cases(s). All surgery will be performed under intravenous sedation as this allows the patient to be fully relaxed throughout the procedure without being conscious of training discussions occurring around them. It also allows for the intravenous administration of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories (Dexamethasone) which greatly reduces the risk of post-operative complications, swelling and discomfort. I routinely utilize the services of dental sedationist and emergency medicine specialist Dr Bree Belford for all my implant surgical procedures and would highly recommend him in this instance. The patient would be charged directly by Dr Belford for this sedation service.

Session 5: Definitive Cerec Implant Restoration:

One or two mentor sessions outlining the scanning and fabrication of a definitive implant supported restoration utilizing Cerec cad cam, Ti-base and Emax Cad restorative technologies. Additional laboratory and componentry costs will be entailed in this session and will be dependent on the particular case(s) at hand.
